Depression

According to Lundbeck, there are a number of different symptoms of depression and they may vary from person to person. The symptoms represent a change from the persons "normal" mood and should have been present most of the time for a period of at least two weeks. They may develop over a period of weeks or even months.
The diagnosis of depression is made when the person has a low mood or a loss of enjoyment and interest in activities coupled with several of the following symptoms:
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Significant changes in appetite
  • Significant weight loss or gain
  • Irritability
  • Tearfulness
  • Feelings of guilt
  • Inability to concentrate
  • Loss of interest or enjoyment in normal daily activities
  • Persistent sadness, anxious or hopeless mood
  • Feelings of anxiety and agitation
  • Tiredness and lack of energy
  • Difficulty making decisions
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Recurring thoughts of death or suicide

The symptoms are frequently worse at a praticular time of day e.g. they may be more severe in the morning and improve toward evening.
